BREAKING NEWS, 2025
breaking news explores language and its transformation through repetition, context, and material form. The phrase “breaking news” serves as the installation’s departure point. Repeated in various intonations and speeds, it leads to a blurring of the words’ original meaning - both for the speaker and the listener. What was once an alert becomes ambient, a background hum reflective of the exhaustion of its meaning due to its frequent use in the contemporary political and social
contexts. Mirroring the linguistic erosion is a sculptural intervention: objects conventionally linked to fragility or dread are reimagined as unbreakable and peaceful. In breaking news, language becomes sculpture, sound becomes repetition, and the urgency of meaning gives way to a space where words are heard, felt, and finally, broken.
